How to Deodorize and Clean a Diaper Pail
Step 1: Clean the Diaper Pail
First things first for tackling diaper pail funk, you need to clean it. As we said earlier we suggest emptying the diaper bags as often as you can. Once you have emptied the bin you can use the cleaning tablets in your spray bottle to clean the entire pail. This means to clean the inside, outside, underneath of the lid, around the rim of the opening and every nook and cranny you can find.
Clean the messy spots with paper towels or wipes so you can easily throw away the mess. No need to ruin good microfiber towels or have to try and clean them. Once you have removed the debris and done the heavy lifting we recommend spraying your cleaning solution and wiping everything very well with the microfiber towels. Spray the solution and let it dwell for 30 seconds for an added punch of deodorizing and cleaning power. Once you have thoroughly cleaned the diaper pail you can now focus on odor prevention.
Step 2: Prevent Odor Build Up
Now that you have cleaned your diaper pail bin and gotten it fresh you need to improve the odor absorption. We recommend placing an odor absorbing granule cabinet under the lip of the pail. This odor absorbing sachet comes in a couple of sizes and will absorb the urine and feces odors so they do not linger in the pail or in the air. If you want an added layer of odor protection you can place one on the bottom of the bin under the diaper pail bags to capture funky smells even more efficiently. You can try using baking soda and other remedies but we do not find them to be as effective and cause more of a mess. These granules are great in trash can cabinets, lockers, shoe closets, and other smelly environments.
Step 3: Air Fresheners & Good Smells
Absorbing odors and removing smelly causes of funk is a great way to improve your living area but you can take it a step further by adding a clean and fresh scent to the environment. Whether you like room sprays, wall plug-ins, or our favorite air freshener bars you can greatly improve the air quality in a room or your home. Our air freshener bars are great because you can put them in the pail or in another inconspicuous place and they last for up to 60 days. They come in a two pack and are less expensive over the long haul and come in a variety of scents to fit your mood. They work great in cars, by cat boxes, in boats, RVs, and more.
